We're excited to announce that our plenary speakers this year will be Rev. Liska Stefko & Thea Prescod. Both are women who have dedicated their lives to ministry in a community setting. They have lots of war wounds and stories of hope to share with us all.
Liska Stefko is a long-time member and currently holds the role of Pastoral Minister at the L’Arche Daybreak community in Toronto. L’Arche is an international network of communities in which people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together. Liska has also lived at L’Arche in Italy and Mexico. Her roles in community over the years include coordinating community life in a home with members with medically complex needs, offering formation for new members, supervising theological students on placement, leading community worship, and facilitating youth retreat days for local high school students. Liska has frequently offered leadership to retreats and gatherings for L’Arche International, weaving together multicultural, ecumenical and interfaith threads to create an experience of unity and belonging.
A priest in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto, Liska has served in various parish roles, with a focus on ministry to children, youth and young families, as well as pastoral care and community-building with people of all ages. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and her Master of Divinity degree at Regis College in the Toronto School of Theology.
Thea Prescod is a long-time member of Sanctuary, a community of welcome for people who experience societal exclusion due to addictions, mental health issues and homelessness. Her roles at Sanctuary over the years include working as a street nurse, mentoring students on placement, orienting new members and advocating for the well-being of women in the community. Her specific care amongst women includes hosting a safe, inclusive weekly gathering of women in the community where women support each other, cook and share meals and celebrate together. Thea walks closely alongside individual women who face complex challenges, deeply listening to their struggles and helping them strategize what steps to take towards greater health.
Thea graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Liska and Thea created some resources connected to their plenaries and we’ve uploaded them for your use.
